Bringing Care to Campus
Wake Tech began a redesign phase of the Student Services areas to see how to best address student need and access. For years, Wake Tech offered support services and resources to students that supported retention. Some of these were siloed and were not well known throughout the campuses. To assist students and create true wrap around support, Wake Tech developed the Care Center. This one stop provides a convenient way to access campus resources and services when necessary. Through the development of the Care Center, multiple locations were created, along with an online presence to meet students where they are. The Care Center offers students Success Coaching, technology support, mental health counseling, emergency financial help, food pantry access, transportation help, and connection to community resources.

Innovation Fund - First Year Projects
During each year of Reach and Rally implementation, action plans are created or updated, implemented, evaluated and changed based on what worked and what didn't. While the college has funded most larger-scale actions, there are many, many smaller-scale and shorter-term equity-focused tactics that may represent new ideas and require some extra resources and budget to carry out. The Innovation Fund is designed to support testing new ideas and actions that advance the goals of the strategic plan, but many not have specific budget resources dedicated to them (because they are new and innovative!!!). In this session, we will share the results of the 12 equity-focused projects that were funded this year (2022-2023) and share on how the Innovation Fund is moving to fund equity-focused projects this coming year (2023-2024).

How to Flip Your Classroom Using Video Quizzes
This presentation will focus on ways you can "flip" your classroom. By having the students watch lectures at home for homework (and answer quiz questions about them) you gain valuable class time that can be used for group projects, class discussions, case studies, and other more student-focused activities. A vital component of this is the "quiz" for each video, which makes the students accountable for watching them. I will discuss a few different options fo rmaking the videos (OBS, Camtasia) and quizzes (VidGrid, Edpuzzle, SoftChalk, Blackboard). These videos also work for delivering content in online or hybrid courses.

Draw to Learn
To utilize research on learning to enhance classroom strategies, we use student drawing as an important learning tool in our active learning toolbox. We teach our students that learning requires multiple inputs that include visual representation as well as kinesthetic activity, and research has shown that drawing or sketching, event low-quality drawings, are a significant learning support. As part of our active learning strategy, we task students with drawing concepts from simple descriptive drawings to complex multi-concept drawings. In this session, we will describe the role of drawing in rigorous active learning, share examples and feedback from students, and lead a discussion with participants about how this strategy could be used in different disciplines.
